Rumors that the teachers’ parking lot was built on old unmarked graves, and reports of ghostly figures seen and footsteps heard when no one is behind you, beg the question: Is the cemetery haunted because of the school, or is the school haunted because of the cemetery? The Cassadaga Hotel displays a likeness of one of their alleged ghosts.

Other rumors include the classic kid-killed-by-Frisbee, and hauntings associated with the nearby Osteen Cemetery. This ghost has apparently been attempting to communicate with night janitors for years. Specifically, the worker was supposedly crushed in the gears of the school’s clocktower. Persistent rumors that Pine Ridge High is haunted have been around for years, and are associated with several legends, including one that concerns a construction worker who was killed while the school was being built in 1994. The murderous (allegedly) clock tower looms over Pine Ridge High School. Up until the tower was finally taken down, there were reports of seeing a ghostly figure early in the morning, stepping off the top of the tower.
Legend has it, long ago, a young Stetson University student by the name of Suzanna Brown threw herself off of Hulley Tower - a 116-foot-tall bell tower demolished in 2005 - after her affair with a married professor was exposed. The long history of the Hotel Putnam - originally a wooden structure known as the DeLand Grove House, circa 1880 - guarantees that if any place is haunted, it’d probably be this one.Įven more than that, its nearly 100-year history as a hotel (complete with several fires) is ripe for all manner of spooks and kooks. In addition to the subdivisions already underway, Bell said he expects two other large properties to be sold to developers in the near future: a 138-acre parcel just north of the Parsons Road property that has was recently annexed to the city, and another 103 acres directly to the east.Īnother planned subdivision, which would not be connected to the pumping station, would add 54 houses to an area of ââthe Fairview Street extension.
The new pumping station will be located southwest of downtown Fountain Inn between Highway 418 and Tall Pines Road. Bell said the upcoming pumping station has, in turn, made the area more attractive to a wider range of developers. ReWa is building the $ 9.7 million pumping station, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, in response to this growing demand, according to an email from Chad Lawson, spokesperson for the sanitation system.
#THE INN BETWEEN DELAND INSTALL#
While largely untouched tracts of land in this corridor have attracted developer interest for several years, a lack of infrastructure would have forced home builders to install septic tanks to service any new development. These subdivisions alone would add approximately 1,000 residences to Fountain Inn, which has approximately 9,300 residents according to 2019 census estimates.īell said all of this development will be connected to the upcoming Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) Pumping Station, which will extend sewer lines along the Payne Branch Creek basin that runs through the area.
“This is certainly the westernmost point our city limits have gone and probably will go,” city administrator Shawn Bell said of the Parsons Road property.
